A crash in Burnout Revenge

Crash is an event type in Burnout Revenge.

Crash involves the player a vehicle into a busy intersection or highway, referred to as a "Crash Junction", to create a pile-up and earn as much Vehicle Damage as possible towards their total Crash Score.

As players cause more Vehicle Damage and earn multipliers by setting off their Crashbreaker, they will increase their Crash Score and earn medals - Gold, Silver, and Bronze - which are each awarded for meeting certain Crash Score totals for a Crash Junction.

Event[]

Crash Cam[]

Prior to selecting a vehicle, the player can watch a "Crash Cam" overview of the Crash Junction location for the Crash event, and can be shown again by selecting the "Crash Cam" option in the car select menu.

Score[]

Crash Score for a Crash event is earned through the player colliding with traffic and creating a pile-up. As a pile-up increases with more vehicles colliding, the player will earn more Vehicle Damage towards their Crash Score.

The total Crash Score for a Crash event is derived from the number of vehicles (show as "Cars Hit") and objects a player has crashed into, the type of vehicle that has crashed, and a multiplier enacted by the number of explosions during the Crash event.

Crashbreaker[]

A Crashbreaker explodes the player's vehicle, causing a shockwave to push nearby vehicle away, and can give the player an opportunity to manoeuvre their wrecked vehicle.

Crashbreakers can be fired multiple times during a Crash event, although they need to be charged by causing vehicle to crash. As more vehicles crash during a Crash event, the more Boost is injected into a player's Boost bar, and is instantly primed for use upon reaching 100%.

Once primed and ready to be fired, the player has a five second countdown window to tap a prompted button to charge their earned Boost before their vehicle detonates an explosion.

Within the countdown window, the Boost bar will deplete Boost, and the severity of the explosion from a Crashbreaker is dependant on the amount of Boost retained at the end of the countdown. If the Boost bar is fully recharged by tapping the prompted button before the countdown window expires, the Crashbreaker is fired at full strength.

Target[]

Within each Crash event, a Target vehicle will appear driving along a route within the Crash Junction and is a Crash vehicle with "TARGET" shown in red above it.

Taking Down the target vehicle, either by colliding with it or impeding its route, will reward the player with additional Vehicle Damage towards their Crash Score and will be promoted as a "Target Car Takedown!"

Medals[]

Each Crash event has a three set score targets: Bronze, Silver, and Gold, and are awarded at the end of a Crash event.

As the player participates in a Crash event, they will be prompted each time they beat a score target and earn a medal.

Car Select[]

Main article: Vehicles (Burnout Revenge)

At the start of a Crash event, the player is given the option to "choose your weapon" through the Car Select menu.

The selection includes racing vehicles and Crash-specific vehicles, with each also having three ratings:

  • Crashbreaker Force - relates to the potency of the explosion caused by the player's vehicle when activating a Crashbreaker.
  • Weight - The mass of a vehicle and how it will interact with various different types of traffic vehicles.
  • Boost Speed - The rate of speed a vehicle can reach from a Boost launch.

Launch[]

Once a vehicle has been selected, the player will launch their vehicle from a standing start towards a Crash Junction.

PlayStation 2 & Xbox[]

In the PlayStation 2 and Xbox releases, the severity of the player's launch is derived from the "Launch bar", as the player is required to press the Boost button three times as a their vehicle revs.

Pressing the Boost button once will start the vehicle to rev. As the vehicle revs, an indicator will raise up the bar but won't descend until the Boost button is pressed a second time. When descending, the player will need to press the Boost button a third time to stop launch the vehicle.

Allowing the revs to reach to the top of the Launch bar will blow the vehicle's engine and allowing the revs to reach the bottom of the Launch bar will stall the engine, both of which will cause the player to fail the Crash event.

Pressing the Boost button when the revs raise and fall within the "Sweet Spot" green zones will give the player's vehicle a "Perfect Launch".

Xbox 360[]

In the Xbox 360 release, the player is not required to use a Launch bar and is always given a "Perfect Launch" at the start of a Crash event.

Impact Time[]

After the player has crashed their vehicle, they can activate "Impact Time" to slow down time and use "Aftertouch" to control their vehicle.

Using Aftertouch, the player can steer their wrecked vehicle in other traffic vehicle or maneuverer their vehicle to other areas with vehicles within a Crash Junction for increased Vehicle Damage.

In the Revenge World Tour, Crash events are unlocked as the player progresses through various events and unlock higher ranks.
